Beatrice Miller

Miller, Beatrice (Nee Leshinsky) Passed away Friday, February 8, 2008, at the age of 95. She was born in Porosville, Poland in 1912.

Orphaned at the age of six, she immigrated to the US at 8 years of age as the adopted daughter of an aunt and uncle, Leah and Hertzel Leshinsky. She married her husband, Bernard Miller in 1933 and together operated Miller Scrap Metal and Paper Recycling business in South Milwaukee. Bernard died in 1984. Beatrice was an astute business woman and in 1967 Governor Warren Knowles appointed her to the Wisconsin Commission on the Status of Women charged with investigating and equalizing career and financial rights for women. She was also a founder and second president of the Jewish Convalescent Center. On the occasion of her 80th birthday, she established the Beatrice Miller Beauty Shop Fund at the Jewish Home and Care Center to help residents pay for beauty and barber services.

Beatrice is survived by her children: Audrey Laufman, Patti (Jordan) Weigler, Joel (Linda) Miller, and Monte (Miriam) Miller; 13 grandchildren and their spouses: Lori, Jeff, and Gary Staiman; Steven (Wendy) Weigler; Aimee Hoffman; Deborah (Aaron) Bernstein; Seth, Ethan, Eli, David, Jeremy, Rachel, and Rebecca Miller; 3 great-grandchildren: Radley, Ariel and Noah. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews and her life long friend of almost 80 years, Lil Riskin.

Special thanks to the staff of the Jewish Home and Care Center for their kindness and extraordinary level of care. Also, special thanks to Dr. Raul Mateo for taking so much time to visit with her and attend to Bea’s health needs. Beatrice will be remembered as a kind, optimistic, energetic, and encouraging mother and friend. She wanted everyone to be happy and she worked hard to make the world better for all of us. We will not forget what we learned from her.

Funeral Services to be held on Sunday, February 10th at 1:00 PM at Congregation Beth Israel, 6880 N. Green Bay Ave., Glendale. Burial to follow at Anshai Lebowitz Cemetery, 326 S. Hawley Rd., Milwaukee.
