Obituary

Samuel Louis Levin

Passed away August 15, 2019 at the age of 70.

Born on May 31, 1949 in Chicago, IL, he spent his formative years growing up in South Haven, MI, splitting time between his parents’ house in the city and moving to their resort in the country each summer. After 16 years of small town living, the family relocated to Chicago where Sam attended Austin High School. He dropped out after three years, obtained his GED, and joined the Navy, serving most of his time in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. During his stint in the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Sue Roedersheimer, in Halifax, NC in 1968. Sam also enlisted in the Army in 1975, but was discharged due to a medical disability.

After discharge from the service, the family moved to California where Sam obtained his Nursing Degree and where they lived for over 25 years adding two children, Steven and Julie. Since then, Julie has given him three grandchildren: Jessica, Joshua and Trevor. Now, his lineage proudly adds two great-grandchildren: Jessica’s two sons, Marshall and Connor. Steven Levin married Rachel S. Christoph, making her daughter, Sabrina, his fourth grandchild.

In May of 2017, Sam found his biological family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Greenfield/Siegel and his father, Jack Marcus. He can now add two more sisters, Ellen and Andrea, as well as two brothers, Gary and Larry. He also has a sister on his father’s side, Arlene Ramsdorf.

After leaving California after the passing of his beloved parents, Reuben and Sophie Levin, the family settled in Wisconsin where Sam’s wife had relatives. Sam moved around from Sheboygan, to Waukesha, to Stevens Point for over 18 years, and finally landed in Waukesha County.

Sam attended Mid-State Technical College earning an Associate Degree in computer programming and web design. He was short only 2 classes for his Networking Degree. He went on to attend Franklin University for a BS in E-commerce with a minor in web design. He was unable to finish due to his health, falling 3 classes short of his BS.

Sam was most proud of his public service in later life. He was elected to two terms as a Portage County Supervisor, two terms as a Village of Whiting Trustee, and his last run for office ended with his election to the Stevens Point Area Public School District Board.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Linda.

Graveside service August 19, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Beth Hamedrosh Hagodel Cemetery, 134 S. Dana Ct., Milwaukee. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that as Sam’s last request, memorial donations be made to the Stevens Point Area Public School District, 1900 Polk Street, Stevens Point, WI 54481.
