Steven L. O’Connor

Milwaukee – Steven O’Connor, 51, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 28th. Loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He was born December 6, 1967 in Green Bay, WI to Lawrence and Patsy O’Connor. He attended Southwest High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

Steve stayed in Milwaukee after college, started a business and resided in Whitefish Bay. He married Aimee Speed on November 24, 2007. Steve, an entrepreneur, built a local landscaping business and enjoyed his many customers and co-workers.

Steve loved to spend time with his family, go fishing, and play with his sassy cats. But his son Henry was the center of his life, and he was deeply proud and honored to be Henry’s dad.

Steve enjoyed family trips to Arbor Vitae and camping in the Hazelhurst area with family and friends, along with a couple of “the boys” fishing trips every year. “O’Connor’s Pub” was always open during Packer games. In his youth, he’d vacation at the family cabin in Crivitz, disappearing for hours on end on his mini bike or snowmobile. A few people might have known Steve to be stubborn (a trait he may or may not have inherited from his father).

Steve is survived by his wife, Aimee, son, Henry. Mother Patsy O’Connor, brother Mike O’Connor (Donna), sister Lori Kneeland (Tim), mother-in-law Lynn Speed, sister-in-law Angela Speed (Joe Boblick), brother-in-law David Speed (Shannon). Nieces and nephews, Courtney, Alexander, Connor, Quinn, Ryan, Kemily, Ruby, Collin and Claire. Steve had many important aunts, uncles and special cousins as well as an amazing group of friends. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence, and father-in-law, Charles Speed.

The family will receive calls of condolence on August 31, 2019 at 11:00 with a brief service at 12:30 at Goodman-Bensman Whitefish Bay Funeral Home, 4750 North Santa Monica Boulevard, Whitefish Bay, WI 53211. Friends and family will be welcomed to share a brief story about Steve during the service. The family welcomes friends to join us following the service at The Bavarian Bierhaus, 700 West Lexington Boulevard, Glendale, WI 53217, for continued storytelling and the celebration of Steve’s life. Steve liked beer (a trait he may or may not have inherited from his mother).

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Henry O’Connor Education MY529 Fund, Wisconsin Public Radio, or American Heart Association.
